Maya Lin

Maya Lin. Using her mind the earths surfaces to create wonderful art.

Ms. Lin is best know for her Vietnam memorial in DC but of course she has done tons more. She has moved to large-scale site-specific installations, intimate studio artworks, architectural works and memorials. Ever since she did the Vietnam memorial she's been tons more work, she wasn't/isn't a one hit wonder artist.  She has been interviewed many times and i grabbed a few for this post. They're very intriguing because she talks like a total artist, she's slightly out there but not and she worked hard for it.

(She reminds of Lane Kim from Gilmore Girls, she worked hard for her band to make it big, Ms. Lin did the same but of course a different kind of art. )

On her website, she says or it says, she only uses earth to make her art. For the Vietnam memorial, she cut open the earth and polished it to make history embedded in the earth. 

I actually saw this myself a few years ago but I couldn't find the pictures, granted i went with a huge group (not an 8th grade trip) so it was super busy. The wall its self is just amazing, it beautiful and I'm so surprised that there isn't sun or water damage to the carvings of the name. Although I do believe that there are people to care for it. You have a chance to see this GO DO IT. It will leave breathless not just by the creation and though of this wall but by all the names too.

Ms. Lin has a fascination with water and here are a few of her landscapes that reflect water.

  Of course like I said before, she is best known for her memorials so here is one she did for the Civil Rights movement.
