Alexander McQueen, a Fashion designer who climbed to the top fast and conquered. Before this class I knew who he was. I love his work, its amazing. His designs are edge and yet classic at all times along with showing off a woman's curves. I hate designers who make dresses that only look good on there 87 lbs models and look terrible on everyone else. McQueen never did that, he always made sure that his designs can look great on everyone. This is my favorite dress of his. I have a top ten list of his dresses, this number two. :)
This dress is just plain beautiful. the bodice is very vintage say about late 1940s but then its updated with the low key hole. Its a very modest dress, Sandra is all covered and showing just a bit a skin, along with simple hair. McQueen is known for making his dresses look effortless on his clients. This dress does look effortless on sandrea but then again she makes everything like that. I was very sadden when I learned about McQueen's death just like the rest of the fashion world and his clients.
Maya Lin. Using her mind the earths surfaces to create wonderful art.
Ms. Lin is best know for her Vietnam memorial in DC but of course she has done tons more. She has moved to large-scale site-specific installations, intimate studio artworks, architectural works and memorials. Ever since she did the Vietnam memorial she's been tons more work, she wasn't/isn't a one hit wonder artist. She has been interviewed many times and i grabbed a few for this post. They're very intriguing because she talks like a total artist, she's slightly out there but not and she worked hard for it.
(She reminds of Lane Kim from Gilmore Girls, she worked hard for her band to make it big, Ms. Lin did the same but of course a different kind of art. )
On her website, she says or it says, she only uses earth to make her art. For the Vietnam memorial, she cut open the earth and polished it to make history embedded in the earth.
I actually saw this myself a few years ago but I couldn't find the pictures, granted i went with a huge group (not an 8th grade trip) so it was super busy. The wall its self is just amazing, it beautiful and I'm so surprised that there isn't sun or water damage to the carvings of the name. Although I do believe that there are people to care for it. You have a chance to see this GO DO IT. It will leave breathless not just by the creation and though of this wall but by all the names too.
Ms. Lin has a fascination with water and here are a few of her landscapes that reflect water.
Storm King Wavefield
Where the Land Meets the Sea
This is her exhibit: Three Ways of Looking at the Earth.
formed entirely from fragments (more than 50,000 pieces) of two-by-four pieces of Sustainable Forestry Initiative certified wood.
Of course like I said before, she is best known for her memorials so here is one she did for the Civil Rights movement.
And here is the top view of the "table"
Its a time line of all the historical movements through the whole history of America.
This is her last memorial What is Missing?
So that's Maya Lin. her website shows all of her collections if you want to see more, go check it out.

Well this guy gives another meaning to watching TV. he found a new way to use to TV to send messages and pictures. I bet his mom isn't mad that he watch a lot of TV because he a made a career out of it. ha ha. Anyways, this video is cool, for one its a video of TVs and two so much is going on in there, its almost as if the pictures being shown are what the TV is for. the bird flying, the skull ( for me that is like a symbol news for today since now the news is about how died or hows been kidnapped then killed, really sad but true) the cartoon, the people chatting, and other things. Its cool that that the big images are actually collages of video grouped together to make the picture. its very innovative of the artist to take all aspects of the art of TV and create a new art.
shallow hal. The main character was able to see a woman's inner beauty and all what she's worth and finally when snaps out of the spell and finds that he really likes the girl. that is what it reminds me of. Gracie Kendal found peace in second life, she learned more about herself and is slowly getting use to her own skin. her avatar is really pretty ( reminds of my high school chem teacher) its her inner beauty, in second life its the only place she can show people who she is in from the inside when other people only see her from the outside and see that she doesn't follow Hollywood type. Kendal's art is all about inner beauty in my opinion and it shows especially in this picture. she still has her glasses, her smile, and her style. her other work on second life shows that beauty isn't just fitting in size two jeans. she is real pioneer and trying to prove that a little over weight doesn't mean the person isn't a good person.
This video was fun because I'm very fascinated by muscles. The face that this artist created a thing to move them with a machine is cool. I love the two volunteers, and the face they are vastly different in size. totally says, in this demo, that size doesn't matter. I find it hilarious that Stelarc is trying to have the buff lift his shirt, that defiantly made my friends laugh when i showed them as it did for the audience. I like how the artist is all about the body. showing how it works different ways. again I've always been fascinated by the human body, if this guy ever comes to town ill go see him. the fact that he uses the human body for art and not like the insides of it like the body exhibit is cool. He's showing how the inside works from the outside.
