3.2 art history in a flash!

Today in class we went over the history of art in a flash. we went from 3 million years ago today.
we saw a pebble from the australopithecus people (3 m.y.a.). It reminded me of Wilson from the Tom Hanks movie Cast Away.

 

the pebbe isn't carved by the australopithecus people, its actually worn in from water which happens to look like a face. Mr. Zucman finds it cool that some Australopithecus found it and decided it was neat so he/she brought it to his/her cave. As Mr. Zucman said, this person was the first curator by bringing it in to keep safe and more than likely on display.

The paintings of the Australopitecus Africans that were shown in class, were pretty similar to us human, they reminded me of the other movie Planet of the Apes, both versions.

 The painting of the Pioneer space craft was interesting, it was of the atom bomb, our solar system, a male and female human and some numbers that i couldn't make out from the back of the classroom.

We also talked  the Chartes cathedral and how it is like an encyclopedia of art because it kept burning and being rebuilt so many times that it has 3 different centuries in it. the 11th-13th.
 

Is the Goth period and Gothic the same? this question came up since the cathedral was built during the goth period, and Mr. Zucman came up with a valid point. No they aren't really related but certainly there are similar aspects between the two. Both are dark and light at the same time, both are overly decorative. Also both love to show off their crosses.

 We also ran through very quickly through the rest but mainly talked about the major names of each period like Turner, Michelangelo, De Vinci, Raphael, Monet, Manet, Picasso, Vermeer, and many more but only briefly.
