Oh boy.
Well its another week of school which means I'm 100% exhausted. 12 units, work, and keeping a social life as much as possible is hard. Just got e-mail from teacher saying if I fall asleep again I'll lose partipation points, even though when she calls me and i answer correctly means nothing. Im paying to be there why can't i close my eyes for a few minutes with having back to back classes, since i have to stay up every night til 1 or 2 studying for them the night before. Sorry just had to get that off my chest.
Didn't really see much art lately except in history class. We just started studying The Great War AKA World War One. It amazes me that my peers don't know much about that war but know more about WWII. Im more amazed by WWI, with all the new weapons and how the face of war changed. The pictures that my teacher showed where mainly from the American home front. Everyone is happy to go to war, they think war is so romantic but they in a way were too naive to realize how bad war had really come. I was the only one in my class who has read, watch, or study world war one. I guess people don't realize that since America really didn't get involved til the end that our hollywood wouldn't have many movies on it. I love movies so I watch movies from all over the world. Europe has many films on the great war. here are some pictures, paintings and movie trailers.

Mary Kelly
Mary Kelly
"She is known for her project-based work, addressing questions of sexuality, identity and
historical memory in the form of large-scale narrative installations. She studied painting in Florence,
Italy, in the sixties, and then taught art in Beirut, Lebanon during a time of intense cultural activity
known as the “golden age.” In 1968, at the peak of the student movements in Europe, she moved to
in which she was actively involved throughout the 1970s." (http://www.rosamundfelsen.com/bio_pdf/kelly/Mary_Kelly.pdf)
I found a video of her describing a photo that she always liked and how she put a grid on it and used the grid to show other things on in the photo. the sound quality isn't the best but if you listen carefully its pretty cool. She is 100% artist because she is a little scattered brained but her work is pretty cool.
She has won 11 awards over the span of 31 years, awards in the States and in England. She has 25 exhibits all over the states and Europe. Her work is amazing. She uses the her feminist background in her work, she is saying yes we have come a long with way but there is still more to achieve as woman in this world still ruled by a man. her work is great because it shows that for being her age that she uses today's technology and new techniques for her work. She is open minded not scared to try new things. I think that's awesome because it keeps her fans on their toes by not knowing what to expect with her art work. I think is also wonderful because she has lived in amazing areas during very intriguing times which of course reflect in her work. She uses all her resources and experiences in her stuff which makes her stand out more than other artists, She can even say that her art work was around when Jackson pollack was along with my other artist Chuck close. Now speaking of Chuck Close i found it to be a small world since in the video above she talks about the grid, which is used by Mr. Close. Artists are sharing their ideas and using them.
This is The Mary Kelly, standing in her light house. She putt messages on it that from the looks of it are things talked about while living in a house and a relationship. I like this because its true, it shows the hardships of living in house with someone you live with for years.

"Flashing Nipple Remix #1" this to me shouts yes I'm woman and nothing will stand in my way to conquer this world.
"Flashing Nipple remix #2"
LED lights to light up her words. I love it. it would make a great night light. :P
LED Lights burning through acrylic
I like this one because people who underestimate women need to remember that women give life.
I love Christina and this made me like her more. I totally remember this performance. After she sang, she ended with the heart on her "girl parts" to light up with LED, a hats off to Mary Kelly. Pretty awesome, since this is using another art form to show art.
here is the light up heart.
All in all Mary Kelly is awesome. She is only modern/contemporary art that i like. Its new but its not over the top and its certainly not messy like some modern art, it also tells a story the way art should in my book. I also like Mary Kelly since has a uniform look to here like my favorite costume designer Edith Head.

Collage
This here is my collage. I tried to make it 2d/3d but really made sure that it wasn't flat and there was texture.
Well this is my collage. these are all things that I like and everything that defines me.Ill start from the top.
Sewing Machine: well I love to sew and im trying to make a career out of it. I've made my prom dress, easter dresses, tops, and my laptop case on this machine.
Mickey ears: i got these my first trip to disneyland I remember it very well and ever since then i've going to as much as i can. I first went when i 3. Those ears mean the world to me and they go with my family's history of getting our ears for our first trip to Disneyland
Shoes: I love shoes. when I have a bad i usually go to a shoe store (DSW) to cheer myself, there's one right next to Knotts berry farm where I work.
Russian Dolls: So I have this obessesion with Russia for some reason. These are from Russia from my grandmother, who gave them to me when I was about 5 or 6. My grandmother help create this obessesion with Russia.
Tinker Bell; My favorite character of Disney. I was Tinker bell for halloween when i was 7 and my mother took me to disneyland and people were amazed by my costume that my mother had made. it was right on the mark with detail. A lot of people thought i was working there as a character.
Frank Sinatra: Im a huge fan of Sinatra, Im like a walking encylopeadia of him. All my friends and family know that I love him.
Varga Pin-up: This is my all time favorite kind of art. I try to put a copy of his art on everything. People then know its mine. I have surfer girl on my school binder.
Spitfire: I love the RAF spitfire airplanes. One day I hope to own but just for the body its half a million dollars. I have few models of them up in room, along with a few books and magazines on them.
Instyle: This is my favorite fashion magazine. I like vogue but theres too many advertizements. Instyle has many different types of style going on in there and it really helps when I design for shows or even for myself.
Knitting: I like to knit, im one of those people who can't sit and watch tv and i need to be doing something. So my mom taught me how to knit.
Rat Pack: the book with the martini glass, This is goes along with my love of Sinatra.
Baseball/Espn: I love baseball,( the red hat with an R) The hat is from the Rockford Peaches when girls played professionally during WWII. I got for two reasons; one being that i love the movie league of their own and two for a costume, I was a Peach. Baseball runs in my family. Its our sport, where some families love football we love baseball. I also like all the other sports and i keep updated with them with the espn magazine.
I love to read and thats why there a few books on here as well. Some are novels and the others (Leading Couples and Ladies) are to go with my love with the golden age of hollywood. I love Grace Kelly, Lauren Becall and Bogart. I can't get enough of old hollywood.
Movies: I love to watch movies. It goes with my love of hollywood. I watch movies from silent movies to todays movies. I like seeing how far we have come in costumes, story lines, make up, acting, effects, and direction through the years.
I love griffes!! I find them so cute.
The red doll is also from Russia, its real name is Matreshka, my boyfriends parents got it for me for christmas. (they're from Russia :] ) She has bells in her like ones in a baby toy, its super cute and I love it.
The other doll on the other side of Matreshka is Domovoi, this is also from Russia, He's my boyfriends favorite cartoon character, he's a ghost that comes and visits or haunts. Still can't find the cartoons so im 100% sure of the character in show.
My Egg beaters. I love to bake and I would be so lost without these beaters. Okay not really its just baking would take twice as long.
In the Back is my purple guitar, i play a little bit but not too much since I rarely have time to practice, but i do enjoy it very much and when i have time i play with my father.
Everything is on my blanket, I love blankets. When im at home im usually under a blanket or walking around in one. Its also purple which is my favorite color. :)

LACMA
Well it was an adventure. So many buildings of art. It was awesome that I got in for free for being with Bank of America, so i save ten bucks or so i thought until i validated my parking but still rather spend ten than twenty.
I went with an open mind trying to find art that best represents me. Boy was that a channellenge, Im very different in everything I do. I like so many things but to relate them to art was/ is hard. I thought be being so diverse in things it would be a little bit easier than it was. So i did my best and this is what i came with.
So I couldn't turn this one around on here for some reason but either way you get the gist of it. This represents my room. Its always a mess, no matter how hard I try to keep my room it always ends up messy. This has happen all my life, never been able to keep it clean, my toys, clothes, shoes, music, and movies have been threaten to be taken away if i don't clean my room by certain day, a rule from my parents that i dispiesed for years. When I saw this painting I totally saw the messes on my floor throught out my life, i have many pink clothes, shoes or when the sun hits the floor i get that color on my wood floors, and then since i also have many blue colored clothes it just made sense that this painting represents my life long fight with keeping my room clean.

Blue. I look good in blue and most of my clothes are blue, its a good color that goes with my blonde hair and pale skin. My favorite place is my room which is also blue(sky blue and midnight blue). I like blue because I can day dream in it, its very easy for myself to lose myself thats blue. To me blue is a happy color. Also the balloon reminds me of working with Ed Alonzo during Knott's Haunt. He had a skit where he would make a balloon dog and tell jokes. Im a huge fan of Ed and so it was huge for me to work with him. Honestly it was a dream come true. (p.s. thats my dad, sorry but i trust my parents with my camera, I was also really sick and not picture ready)
These clothes do a few things for my life. 1. I love period clothes/costumes. 2. period costumes help me choose my major which is costume design. 3. these costumes look just like the costumes that were in a play that I work on last year at Cypress college. I have always had a thing for period costumes, sometimes I wish i lived different eras just so I can dress up. Why shouldn't events requite white black tie more often. Who doesn't like to dress up. Costume design was just a thought a few years ago until I got my job at knotts wardrobe and at cypress college's costume shop. Sewing use to be just a skill but now i can make a career out of it and its something that I love that doesn't require me to sit at a desk for hours and be bored out of my mind. beaux stratagem was the play that the school put on and I got to help. I learned a lot from working on this, one actors hard to work with and that directors may not even know the correct era but still want whatever the director wants. With costume design as my major I must learn how to deal with directors and constants changes. The play was a big part of my stitching career that im gratefull for.
Anger. I can sometimes have a short temper but usually i feel this way about my brother. Just about everything my older brother does, I feel red fireiry flames running through me but i usally walk away from so i don't get to upset with him. Theres just things that he does bring this out in me. I wish I could name a time that he comes and visits when I don't feel this way but for the past 5 years this how i feel about him and the things he does.
Many times in my life i have felt the way the person in the blue in front of the stage has felt. My sister any time she comes over takes center stage, and every one gives her attention not me. Im not saying I want full attention but i wish they didn't pass over me like the person is red/orange is doing over the person in blue, not even noticing someone is there. My sister says it doesn't happen but it does. This painting when i saw made me think of all the holidays and dinners that my sister attends and how she takes her spotlight center stage.
So I couldn't turn this one around on here for some reason but either way you get the gist of it. This represents my room. Its always a mess, no matter how hard I try to keep my room it always ends up messy. These sculptures relate to me because i work with my hands. yes everyone does work with their hands but i mean i create with mine through knitting, crocheting, sewing, model making, drawing, sketching, baking, and of course writing. Im also a hands on learner, if can't touch it in any shape or form then ill have trouble understanding it unless i can relate it back to something else. My hands are very important to me, without them i can't type, text, drive, fastforward through commericals, take pictures, and so many other things, and most important sew. I love it so much and you can't sew without hands.
okay so when I saw this modern art piece I thought how everyone complements my hair, mainly my curls. Its like my trademark. I have curly wavy hair so when friends see me with straight hair its weird for them. I comb my curls out to get them nice and fluffy and ready for what im going to conquer next. My curls make me very confident and that i can face anything thrown my way. So my curls are a big part of me. :)
Not quite art but still pretty. this reminds me of my childhood and even my adulthood. My mom would always call us in from play time to have tea and say the rosary (i wasn't kidding about the very catholic upbringing), which to me and my siblings was nap time, tea time was awesome. it was a snack after playing for hours upon hours which little but very good. When ever i see a tea set or smell tea i remember running up the apparent stairs opening the door to the scent of tea, tea sandwiches, and cookies. I love my mom for doing this because its a great habit for my life. When I saw this thats totally what i thought of my childhood and some what my adulthood, when im having a bad my mom will set up tea for me because she knows it was a happy part of my life. I also love tea next to coffee.
Well thats my "art collection" and the stories behind each art piece.I tried really hard to find stuff that would represent me and I even tried to use modern art (not the biggest of it). All in All i think i did my best. I know that I found stuff that reminded me of my childhood and stuff that represents my feelings in my life about my family. I took a slight different road to this assignment by matching my life emotions to art rather than stuff that decipts my life. If I did art that was super on point on my life, there would be baseball paintings, shoes, Golden age hollywood, sinatra, and etc. But thats what the collage is for I guess is which ill be posting next.

BEAUTY
Beauty is something comes out from within, if someone believes he/she has beauty it will shine through out. I personally believe that through out the years the media has determined who is the prettiest or the "fairest of them all' Way back when it was controlled by who was ever in power, or in power of what was in or out. Also through out history even to this day society still has the same taste in beauty. Women must be curvaceous (big busted, small waist, and hips(a butt)), Men must be very fit (very define muscles, good hair, tall, and an athletic body.
Beauty is perceived by many people in different ways. (I know I keep using humans but I'd rather use people that every one knows.) Some people think that Angelina Jolie is drop dead gorgeous while others think that Scarlett Johannson is. Its all by what the person likes or dislikes. No one is perfect and neither are they point of view. All in all beauty comes from wtihin and all depends on the person in my opinion.
